Too Scared to Be an Idiot
from "A Dry Spell"
(Buy on Etsy)

Are you too scared to be an idiot,
to smile with idiot things,
to lap up the dream with a grin,
a dumb, toothy grin?
Many among us would love
to give away our misgivings
and fly into the sun
with wings that will not melt.
If the truth were too simple,
it would hide from those
who want to be seen as smarter
than the denizens of Earth.
