A brief word on double entendres...

Individual Poems
Guilt Gnaws Like a Hungry Animal
from "Fire and Milk"
(Buy on Etsy)
The feeling of guilt gnaws
like a hungry animal at the heart,
spoiling every pleasure.
Can I live with the enormity
of the pain I have caused
to those I have known?
With Herculean muscles twitching,
the guilt is pushed away,
and self-forgiveness is feigned.
For the moment I can walk on,
ignoring the hot iron on my chest.
